Description

The Euathlus sp. ‘Fuego’ (Chilean Fire) is a radiant, high-contrast dwarf species that lives up to its name. This stunning tarantula is prized for its brilliant, fire-engine red carapace and deep velvet-black body—a “glowing ember” aesthetic that makes it one of the most visually intense display animals in the entire hobby.

Quick Facts

  • Species: Euathlus sp. ‘Fuego’
  • Size: 3.5-4 inch leg span (Dwarf Species)
  • Lifespan: Females 20+ years | Males 5-7 years
  • Growth Rate: Slow
  • Temperament: Unbeatably calm, curious, and inquisitive
  • Care Level: Beginner ⭐

The ‘Fuego’ is world-famous for its incredible “investigative” personality. While many larger species bolt for their burrows at the slightest vibration, Euathlus species are known to walk toward the front of their enclosure to explore. Their slow, deliberate pace and complete lack of defensiveness make them the ultimate “confidence-builder” for keepers who want a stunning spider without the stress of speed or aggression.

Silk Road Note: This is a true “Pet Rock 2.0.” It offers the legendary hardiness of a Rose Hair but with the high-end red coloration usually reserved for much more difficult species. Because they stay small, they are perfect for desktop display enclosures where their metallic red sheen can be appreciated under any light.

🏡 Care Requirements

Provide 3-4 inches of firm, dry substrate with a small cork hide and a shallow water dish. These spiders prefer room temperatures (68-75°F) and low humidity. Feed 1-2 small roaches or crickets weekly. They are very light eaters and exceptionally long-lived, offering decades of beauty with minimal maintenance.
