If you are looking for the absolute “Final Boss” of tarantula keeping, the Pinkfoot is it. This species is a bold, ground-dwelling predator that is famous for its “hissing” stridulation and its sheer speed for an animal of its size. Their growth rate is legendary; they can double in size in just a few molts, making them incredibly rewarding for keepers who want to raise a massive, prehistoric-looking giant in real-time.

Silk Road Note: This is a “New World” giant, but they are not for beginners. They possess the most irritating urticating hairs in the hobby and will flick them readily if disturbed. Because they are more sensitive to humidity and temperature fluctuations than their cousins, we recommend this species strictly for dedicated keepers who can maintain a stable tropical environment.

🏡 Care Requirements

Provide 5-6 inches of moist, peat-based substrate to facilitate burrowing and humidity retention. Keep temperatures between 76-84°F with high humidity (75-85%). Stagnant air is dangerous; ensure the enclosure has excellent cross-ventilation. Feed 1-2 large roaches or crickets weekly. Always provide a large, shallow water dish—hydration is the most critical factor for these giants.
