The Antilles Pink Toe (Caribena versicolor) is widely considered the “Crown Jewel” of the arboreal hobby. Famous for their dramatic color shift, they begin life as brilliant electric blue slings before maturing into a breathtaking spectrum of metallic greens, purples, and deep reds.
Quick Facts
- Size: 5-6 inch leg span when mature
- Temperament: Docile and calm, but prone to “jumping”
- Care Level: Beginner (Adults) / Intermediate (Slings) ⭐⭐
Docile, active, and prolific webbers, these spiders are a showpiece for any collection. Unlike Old World species, they prefer flight over fight and will usually retreat to their silken tunnels when disturbed. Note: While docile, slings are more sensitive than adults and require precise husbandry.
🏡 Care Requirements
MAXIMUM CROSS-VENTILATION IS CRITICAL. Stagnant, “swampy” air is the primary cause of health issues for this species. Maintain a large, clean water dish at all times for humidity. For slings, keep the lower layers of substrate slightly dampened while ensuring the top layers and webbing remain dry. Airflow is the #1 priority—if the enclosure smells “musty,” increase ventilation immediately.
