If you are looking for an active, “bulletproof” scorpion that is always on the move, the Congo Scorpion is unmatched. Unlike many scorpions that hide all day, H. hottentotta is a bold hunter that spends much of its time exploring its environment. Their growth rate is explosive, reaching maturity much faster than many other Buthids. Their dark, pebbled texture provides a stunning contrast against desert-style sand or stone-heavy enclosures.
Silk Road Note: This is an “Old World” scorpion with **medically significant venom**. While they are not considered as dangerous as some of their cousins, their sting is extremely painful and should be avoided at all costs. We recommend this species for keepers who are comfortable using long tongs for maintenance and who want to observe one of natureās most successful reproductive survivalists.
š” Care Requirements
Provide 2-3 inches of dry, sandy substrate with plenty of flat rocks or cork bark for hiding. Keep temperatures between 78-88°F with low humidity (30-40%). They are very drought-tolerant but should be offered a small, shallow water dish once a week. Feed 1-2 appropriately sized insects weekly. Their hardy nature and active lifestyle make them a fantastic introduction to the world of Old World scorpions.
