If you are looking for a “New World Giant” with a faster growth rate than the Goliaths, the Red Bloom is unmatched. This species is a bold display animal that rarely hides once it hits the juvenile stage. Their feeding response is legendary; they are fearless hunters that will enthusiastically charge across the enclosure for a meal. Watching a Red Bloom grow from a colorful spiderling into a massive, leggy adult is one of the most rewarding experiences in the hobby.
Silk Road Note: While they lack the medically significant venom of Old Worlds, P. vespertinus is known for being “flighty” and having very irritating urticating hairs. We recommend this species for keepers who have some experience with fast-moving terrestrials and want a large-scale display spider that grows quickly and eats aggressively.
🏡 Care Requirements
Provide 4-5 inches of substrate with a large cork hide and a wide water dish. Keep temperatures between 75-82°F with moderate humidity (65-75%). They appreciate a moisture gradient—keep one side of the substrate damp while the other remains dry. Feed 1-2 large insects once a week. Their high metabolism and massive appetite make them a thrill to keep and a true centerpiece of any room.
