If you are a fan of “The Ghosts of the Forest,” the Lam Dong is a must-have. This species is a relentless architect, constructing deep, silk-lined burrows that often feature elaborate “chimney” style entrances above the substrate. They are famous for their explosive feeding response—often striking prey with incredible precision before vanishing back into the shadows. Their fast growth rate and bold, “shadowy” patterns make every sighting a major event for the keeper.
Silk Road Note: As an Old World species, the Lam Dong possesses medically significant venom and “teleportation” speed. They do not have urticating hairs and will not hesitate to defend their territory with intensity if disturbed. We recommend this species strictly for experienced keepers who are comfortable managing fast, defensive, and moisture-dependent spiders.
🏡 Care Requirements
Provide 5-6 inches of moist, tropical substrate to allow for natural burrowing behavior. Keep temperatures between 75-82°F with high humidity (70-80%). Ensure the enclosure has excellent cross-ventilation. Feed 1-2 appropriately sized insects weekly. They thrive in a “wet-dry” cycle where the lower layers of substrate stay moist while the surface is allowed to dry slightly between mistings.
