Asian Forest Scorpion (Heterometrus spinifer) – juvenile to adult

The Asian Forest Scorpion is a massive, obsidian powerhouse and one of the most imposing invertebrates in the hobby. Heterometrus spinifer is world-famous for its incredible size, reaching up to 5-7 inches, and its high-gloss, jet-black exoskeleton that shimmers with a ghostly blue-green glow under UV light.

If you are looking for a “Heavyweight” arachnid that commands attention, the Asian Forest Scorpion is the gold standard. Unlike many smaller scorpions, they rely on their massive, powerful pincers (chelae) rather than their sting to subdue prey. They are impressive “bulldozers” of the terrarium, constantly moving substrate and bark to create the perfect humid retreat. Their sheer mass and predatory presence make them a favorite for keepers who want a “dinosaur” in their collection.

Silk Road Note: While they are a “New World” style of scorpion with mild venom (comparable to a bee sting), they are much more “pinch-happy” and defensive than Emperor scorpions.
