If you are looking for an active, colorful spider that doesn’t require a massive enclosure, the Blue Lightning is unmatched. This species is a relentless architect, quickly transforming its habitat into a complex network of silken tunnels and web-mats. Despite their small adult size, they have a “giant” personality, featuring an explosive feeding response and a constant drive to “redecorate” their space with silk.
Silk Road Note: While they are a New World species with mild venom, they are exceptionally fast—often described as “teleporting” during maintenance. We recommend this species for keepers who enjoy watching a spider interact with its environment and want a high-contrast display animal that fits perfectly on a desk or small shelf.
🏡 Care Requirements
Provide 3-4 inches of substrate with plenty of “anchor points” like cork bark or moss for webbing. Keep temperatures between 72-80°F with moderate humidity (60-70%). They appreciate a slightly damp corner of the enclosure to stay hydrated. Feed 1-2 small roaches or crickets weekly. Their high metabolism means they grow quickly and are always ready for their next meal!
