Description

The Chilean Orange Blush is an elegant, high-contrast relative of the famous Rose Hair and one of the most underrated beginner species in the hobby. Grammostola sp. “Concepcion” is prized for its shimmering metallic orange-to-copper carapace and deep velvet-black legs, creating a warm, glowing aesthetic that stands out in any terrestrial collection.

Quick Facts

  • Species: Grammostola sp. “Concepcion”
  • Size: 5-5.5 inch leg span when mature
  • Lifespan: Females 20+ years | Males 4-6 years
  • Growth Rate: Very Slow
  • Temperament: Extremely calm, docile, and slow-moving
  • Care Level: Beginner ⭐

If you are looking for a “first tarantula” that is both beautiful and predictable, the Orange Blush is an elite candidate. These spiders are famous for their “Pet Rock” behavior—they are content to sit in the open for days at a time, making them exceptional display animals. Their movements are slow and deliberate, and they are far less likely to be skittish than other New World terrestrials.

Silk Road Note: This species is a true “lifetime investment.” Like most Chilean Grammostola, they are incredibly long-lived and built to survive the harsh, dry environments of South America. They are exceptionally hardy and forgiving of minor husbandry shifts, making them a “no-stress” addition to any home.

🏡 Care Requirements

Provide 3-4 inches of dry, firm substrate with a cork hide and a shallow water dish. Keep temperatures between 68-78°F with low humidity (40-50%). Like the Rose Hair, they may go on extended “hunger strikes,” which is normal for their low metabolism. Feed 1-2 appropriately sized insects every 2-4 weeks. This is one of the lowest-maintenance pets on the planet.
