Quick Facts
- Species: Grammostola porteri

- Lifespan: Females 20+ years | Males 4-5 years
- Growth Rate: Very slow
- Temperament: Extremely calm and docile

Widely considered the most handleable and forgiving tarantula available, the Rose Hair is the perfect “first spider.” This species is famous for its “Pet Rock” personality—they are content to sit in the open for long periods, making them excellent display animals. Because they are slow-growing and exceptionally long-lived, a Chilean Rose Hair is a true lifetime investment for your collection.
Silk Road Note: This species is known for extended “hunger strikes” (fasting periods), which are completely normal and no cause for concern. As long as their abdomen remains plump and water is available, they are simply being their efficient, low-metabolism selves.
🏡 Care Requirements
Provide 3-4 inches of firm, dry substrate with a cork hide and a shallow water dish. Keep temperatures between 68-78°F with low humidity (40-55%). Feed every 2-4 weeks. This is the most low-maintenance tarantula you can own.
