If you are looking for a tarantula that stays out in the open and demands attention, the Fireleg is it. This species is an exceptional display animal that rarely hides, making it a favorite for keepers who want a “centerpiece” spider. Hailing from the dry scrublands of Mexico’s Pacific coast, they are incredibly hardy and built to thrive in standard household conditions for decades.
Silk Road Note: While they are slow-moving and rarely show defensiveness, B. boehmei is known for being a “flicker.” If they feel startled, they are quick to kick their urticating (itching) hairs. For this reason, we recommend them as a “look but don’t touch” display pet that rewards you with some of the most vibrant colors in nature.
🏡 Care Requirements
Provide 3-4 inches of dry substrate with a cork bark hide and a shallow water dish. Keep temperatures between 75-82°F with low to moderate humidity (50-60%). They prefer their environment on the drier side. Feed 1-2 appropriately sized insects once a week. Their care is nearly identical to the famous Red Knee, making them a very easy “next step” for beginners.
